John,

I recently joined KTAR News (92.3 FM) to discuss the measures we are taking to ensure integrity, accountability, and community trust here in Maricopa County. Click here to listen to the full interview.

First and foremost, I believe body cameras are a valuable tool for police departments. As law enforcement officers, it is our responsibility to act with respect and professionalism at all times. If officers act egregiously, body camera footage can assist in internal investigations and help us hold those officers accountable for their conduct.

At MCSO, we also encourage accountability by having all traffic stop interactions recorded and reviewed by internal and external oversight. Checks like this can help us all learn from and improve on our work, as well as hold officers accountable when protocol is broken.

While I do not stand for defunding law enforcement, I do believe in transparency and accountability. Here is a link to a recent statement I made on the matter.

As long as I serve as your Sheriff, I will continue to take steps to ensure that MCSO is an effective and valuable resource to those we serve.

We have taken huge strides over the past four years to build trust and bring about accountability. Please consider making a donation to my re-election campaign so that we can continue to build on our progress for years to come.
