Over the last few weeks, the Trump administration has sent more than 2,000 federal agents to Minnesota in what ICE is calling its “largest immigration operation ever.”
Amid growing unrest over the federal crackdown, an ICE agent shot and killed an American citizen in Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good.
John, this was a terrible tragedy, and it, along with the escalating encroachment of ICE in states across the country, demands swift independent oversight to ensure that federal authorities do not endanger our communities.
Congress would be abdicating its responsibility to the American people, Renee Nicole Good and others injured by law enforcement if it does not seek a full understanding of the Department of Homeland Security's operations.
That’s why CREW sent a letter to the House Committee on Homeland Security and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, imploring them to conduct oversight of the shootings in Minnesota and other states— and we want to show that people across the country are with us.

The facts demand congressional attention:
An American citizen—37-year-old mother of three—was killed by an agent of the US government. That killing took place amid growing public unrest over DHS’s biggest-ever immigration enforcement deployment.
On the day of the shooting, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem seemed to unequivocally conclude that the killing was justified and told the public that Ms. Good was engaged in an act of “domestic terrorism”— despite apparent evidence and video footage to the contrary.
John, the American people need answers, and these congressional committees are in a prime position to secure them.
If Congress fails to act, it would be neglecting its solemn and urgent responsibility to conduct oversight of the executive branch and its agencies in the wake of a terrible tragedy.
Given the unprecedented deployment of more than 2,000 federal troops into Minnesota and the recent killing by federal agents, Congress must demand transparency and hold those in power accountable before more lives are put at risk.
