The blatant mishandling of COVID-19 by Donald Trump is unfathomable. We've suffered immense, unnecessary loss of life and significant damage to our economy and our healthcare system. The fear, anxiety, and grief of navigating this hardship, individually and as a community, is tremendous.

Now, Donald Trump is attempting to limit funds for further COVID-19 testing, even as it's clear that this pandemic is continuing to spread. He opposes new funding for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and he is undermining the scientists who are working furiously to find a cure for this disease. His words and actions are putting our communities in more danger and leaving us without necessary relief.

We should expect more from our political leaders. This public health emergency was twisted into a partisan game -- and if Donald Trump is the winner, we are the losers.

Our nation is facing over 3.9 million cases, over 140,000 deaths, and sustained community spread -- yet the president still refuses to act with the swiftness and decisiveness that the situation demands. This isn’t just about the numbers; it is about human beings who have been forced to navigate unimaginable medical, financial, and emotional hardships.

It didn’t have to get this grim. If Donald Trump had reacted earlier to this threat, hundreds of thousands of Americans wouldn’t have been infected and tens of thousands wouldn’t have died. Yet, here we are, months into this national emergency -- and instead of committing necessary life-saving action, Donald Trump wants to brush the problem aside and refuses to provide the resources we need if we're going to turn the tide.

Please take action today by signing my petition calling on Congress to expand COVID-19 testing and contact tracing, and to provide sufficient funding for the CDC.
