********************
G’day John,
********************

First, thank you to everyone who has sent me emails and texts
wishing me well following my spinal surgery. The good news is
that the operation went very well, and I am finally getting back
to 100%.

I’ve got a few inquiries coming up so when I haven’t been
catching up on the news, I have been reading through submissions.
I have included a summary of these inquiries at the end of this
newsletter in case you would like to get involved!

Like all Australians, I was horrified by the terrorist attack on
Jewish Australians at Bondi on December 14th. My heart goes out
to that community and especially to the families who had their
loved ones taken from them in the most awful way imaginable.

The day after the attack my phone wouldn’t stop ringing. It was
the veterans. Soldiers who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq for 20
years. They were also horrified, traumatised and angry.

I will be at the Townsville RSL on Sunday 18th of January from
10-2pm. Please pass this on to any veterans who might be up for
coming along.

Before it was announced that parliament would return early, I
booked a work trip to Townsville and Brisbane. I want to hear
directly from veterans about the impact of the attack on them and
what ideas they have for keeping all Australians safe in the
future.

So, I am not going back for the sitting on the 19th & 20th of
January. But I will be staying in touch with the Senate, and my
votes will be recorded.

I will have more to say on the attack and the government’s
approach in the coming days.

Love Jac

families, you can chip in below. Every bit of support helps.

I have several Bills (draft legislation) on the go, and Senate
Inquiries, this gives you an overview and you can follow the link
to track the Inquiry on the APH website.

------------------
Bills in Inquiries

------------------

Public Service not profit!

Legislation that would set limits on the amount of money the most
senior public servants are paid –they all make more than the PM!

Remuneration Tribunal Amendment (There For Public Service, Not
Profit) Bill 2025
( [link removed] )

Education not profit!
and very much in the same theme is legislation that caps the
amount of cash Vice Chancellors can pocket – some of them make
more than a million bucks!

Tertiary Education Legislation Amendment (There For Education,
Not Profit) Bill 2025

Sexual assault in the ADF

The Government is still dragging its feet on sorting out the
sexual assault issues in the ADF – I’ve had a gutful of their
inaction on this issue. We still have perpetrators in uniform and
victims waiting for justice!

Defence Amendment (Sexual Assault Prevention, Intervention and
Response Commission) Bill 2025

Is Superannuation working for Veterans?

The superannuation and pension schemes for veteran’s is a bit of
a cluster and I don’t think it’s fit for purpose. This Inquiry is
looking at what is working and what needs to be fixed!

Despite COVID the airlines are raking in the cash – and if you
live in one of Australia big cities you can still get cheap
flights – but if you’re living in rural and regional Australia
(like Tasmania) you have limited services and are getting slugged
for massive fees on security and airport levies. It’s not fair
and it needs to be fixed!
