The American people should never have to question whether our president is putting his own financial interests over the good of the country. It's why the founding fathers wrote the Emoluments Clause into the Constitution in the first place.

Disturbingly, since Trump's taken office, any assurance of that has gone out the window. Here's the latest news:

President Trump is claiming it's likely that he'll hold next year's G-7 Summit at his own resort in Doral, Florida -- potentially funneling millions of taxpayer dollars and foreign government dollars into his own pockets.

It's wrong. And likely unconstitutional. Will you add your name to my petition demanding that the Trump administration host the G-7 Summit at a property where the president will not personally profit?

Look: The Constitution clearly forbids a sitting president from accepting emoluments (or anything of value) from foreign governments or the United States of America, outside of a salary.

It's also clear that, thus far in his presidency, Trump has paid disturbingly little attention to these rules. It's why I've joined with other senators in a lawsuit to enforce the Emoluments Clause.

But this is beyond the pale. Even for a president who so casually flouts our basic democratic norms as a nation. We must speak out.

Please, join me in demanding that the Trump administration commit to hosting the G-7 Summit at a property where the president will not personally benefit.
