Former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska) announced that she is running for the Senate—and Democrats everywhere are newly energized about the widening path to flip the U.S. Senate from MAGA to Democratic control this year.

Peltola’s entry into the Senate race is important. But so is this: Florida, a state that Joe Biden narrowly lost in 2020, is now a tipping point state for Senate control.

The path to a 51 seat Democratic majority in the Senate now comes down to Florida’s Senate race—and defeating unelected MAGA Senator Ashley Moody.

Moody is an election denier who supported Trump’s attempted coup on January 6, 2021. She is an anti-abortion MAGA extremist who fought for a total abortion ban. 

And in her short time in office, Ashley Moody has already: 

• Voted to cut health care for 4.3 million Floridians and triple premiums for over 4 million more
• Fought for extreme abortion bans that put millions of women’s lives at risk
• Hobbled FEMA with deep budget cuts to disaster preparedness and reckless firings and layoffs that put millions at risk

That’s why we are doing the work right now to defeat Ashley Moody, flip the U.S. Senate from red to blue, and make sure Moody never holds a position of power or authority again.
