Our team just released a new video highlighting how President Trump is weaponizing the Department of Justice for personal and political retribution.

The Department of Justice is now essentially the president's political enforcer. In the last few months, the DOJ indicted two of Trump’s perceived political enemies, former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, after the president himself singled them out and over the objection of career prosecutors.

With these indictments, Trump has once again broken new ground—and not in a good way.

The Department of Justice has changed fundamentally during Donald Trump’s presidency, particularly in his second term.

One of the fundamental changes we’ve seen is that the line between the presidency and the president’s political interests on the one hand, and the DOJ and the choices it makes in criminal enforcement on the other, has all but evaporated.

Trump has spent years demanding— and now securing —criminal charges for his perceived political enemies. This includes pushing to prosecute James Comey and Letitia James, despite career professionals' determination that the law did not support these prosecutions.

After one career prosecutor declined to bring charges against Comey, Trump took matters into his own hands and installed Lindsay Halligan—who previously represented Trump personally—to indict Comey and James.

In late November, a judge ruled that Halligan was illegally appointed—and then just this week Trump fired yet another prosecutor who refused to take up Comey’s prosecution.

John, Trump firing anyone who gets in the way of his retribution campaign is NOT normal and it could not be more dangerous for our democracy.

If the president can decide which of his enemies he wants prosecuted and make it happen regardless of whether the law supports such a prosecution, then none of us is safe.

If we write this off as business as usual, our country and the protections we take for granted will be gone before we know it.
