In Memoriam: Alphonso Mayfield |

As we begin this year of organizing, we do so while holding deep grief in our hearts.
It is with profound sorrow that we honor the life and legacy of Alphonso Mayfield, President of the Florida Rising Board of Directors, President of SEIU Florida Public Services Union, and a giant in the fight for justice in our state.
Alphonso was more than a union leader. He was a builder of people-powered movements. He understood that worker power, racial justice, and economic justice are inseparable, and he dedicated his life to advancing all three.
“Alphonso was a warrior for the people and a dear brother in this struggle,” said Victricia Simmons, Executive Director of Florida Rising. “Today, we grieve. But tomorrow, we organize. There is no greater tribute than continuing the work he dedicated his life to.”
We extend our deepest condolences to the Mayfield family, to SEIU FPSU members, and to the broader labor movement. Rest in power, Alphonso.
We carry his legacy forward by organizing with courage, clarity, and love for our people.

This educational event is being held in honor of what would have been the 97th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a pivotal figure in the American Civil Rights Movement and a global icon of peace and resistance. Our goal is to move beyond mere historical recognition and offer practical knowledge that can be applied to current struggles for justice and equality.
