Head out for open water fishing this January

No ice? No problem. With unseasonably warm temperatures most of January, Nebraska's lakes and rivers are offering plenty of open water fishing opportunities between cold snaps. Head out during the mid-afternoon and fish near good habitat for the most success at luring in the bite. Have your eye on trout? Commission to consider recreation project grantees

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider recommended community outdoor projects when it meets Jan. 23 in Lincoln.

Commissioners will consider staff recommendations to approve grants for the Land and Water Conservation Fund Stateside Assistance Program and outdoor trail projects for federal funding through the Recreational Trails Program.

Look for the peregrine falcon symbol on line 62 of your Nebraska state income tax form, where you can donate $1 or more to the Wildlife Conservation Fund, which helps several hundred species in Nebraska that are rare, endangered or threatened.
