Friend,
It’s been another busy week in DC fighting for Iowans. I want to update you on a bipartisan effort I recently led – and it all started on a plane when I ran into Congresswoman Lauren Underwood while we were both on our way back to DC.
She brought up a bill she’s working on to support veteran moms. I was surprised to learn not all VA facilities provide private, clean lactation spaces for mothers.
As a mom, I know how important nursing or pumping is for moms. And let me tell you, timing for breastfeeding and pumping is a challenge and certainly not always convenient!
America’s military moms have already sacrificed so much for our freedoms. And even when they are no longer serving in our military, their service continues as they raise families, balance careers, and care for others. The least we can do is make sure they receive the care and accommodations they have earned at VA facilities.
Too often, women are left with no option but a bathroom stall or in their car. That is unacceptable. That’s why I’m proud to lead bipartisan efforts in the House to fix this by requiring every VA medical center to provide a private, clearly marked nursing room.
It’s a simple, commonsense way to respect our veteran mothers, support healthy babies, and honor the families who have given so much to our country.
If you or someone you know is experiencing challenges accessing benefits or services with the VA, my team and I stand ready to help and offer assistance.
