John,

I was told that it’s “hopeless,” “a lost cause” not worth pursuing.

I was told we were “wasting” hours of my time as a lawyer working pro bono to hunt down and deliver justice to the far-right killer who had murdered a Chilean folk singer and peace activist Victor Jara.

My team and I ignored those voices. We eventually won: together, we identified Jara’s murderer and located him in the United States, of all places, living his life like nothing happened. He was charged and extradited to stand trial for his crimes.

This is the thing: Now, the Trump Administration wants you to feel the same. Their shows of force and power are meant to do one thing. Getting you to abandon your rights or your advocacy for the rights of others.

And we all feel it in our bones that things are really wrong. But this is the time to draw the line. I know from my experience: you cannot give an inch in this fight for our basic rights and freedoms. Giving in to bullies only encourages further abuse. We have to stand tall together.

I am a first-generation Mexican-American human rights attorney who has served our country in uniform. What the Democratic Party and our country needs at this very moment is a new crop of leaders with the backbone, experience, and fighting spirit to stand for us right now. I am ready to lead and fight for us.

I am facing the full weight of the billionaire-funded MAGA movement in my critical race to win NH-01 for Democrats. If we fail, we have no chance of retaking control of the House. I’ve set a big mid-month goal for my team today—to raise $15,000 before midnight tonight—and I hope I can rely on your support of $25, $5, or any amount that fits your budget at the moment to help us get there:
