What’s happening inside of ICE detention centers is beyond shameful.
Basic safety guidelines are being ignored. People are being forced to crowd together in unsafe, unsanitary conditions -- putting them at a severe risk of illness.
In fact, ICE’s infection data shows that people in Texas detainment centers are 15 times more likely to test positive for the coronavirus than the rest of the state’s population.
And 70% of ICE detention centers nationwide aren’t even testing their detainees.
Instead, horrifically, they’re taking treatment into their own hands -- spraying people with dangerous disinfectant chemicals that are causing skin rashes, bloody noses, and respiratory issues.
In short, ICE is only making the pandemic worse. And the most vulnerable among us are paying the price.
That’s why we’re demanding that Congress open an investigation into ICE’s COVID-19 response. The thousands of children, families, and others at risk can’t wait another day.
