A pandemic is raging unchecked across our country because of the criminal incompetence of the Trump administration.

The murder of George Floyd has initiated an unprecedented, long overdue period of nationwide introspection on racism.

The cruelty and ineptitude of Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans — who can’t even coordinate enough to come up with a response to the additional coronavirus relief bill Democrats proposed, and the House passed, over two months ago — threaten to throw the country from deep recession into profound disarray. Millions of Americans are at risk of losing unemployment benefits, protection from eviction, and more.

All of this can feel overwhelming.

Because it is overwhelming.

And, on top of all of that, now we must also mobilize to prevent Donald Trump’s authoritarian ambitions.

Following his deployment of unidentified paramilitary forces in Portland, Oregon, Trump has announced that — against the wishes of local officials — he is sending even more of these troops to Chicago and Albuquerque.

Next up, he says, will be Cleveland (my hometown), Detroit, and Milwaukee.

Milwaukee, not so incidentally, is where the scaled-back Democratic convention will be held.

Trump’s deployment of secret police is exactly what it appears to be — creeping fascism.

How far Trump goes with all of this ultimately depends on one thing and one thing only:

Will the American people reject Trump’s march toward fascism or resign ourselves to it?

Tell Donald Trump:

You will not get away with dragging America into a fascist future. We reject your craven, authoritarian maneuvers.

Take action today even if you’ve added your name to other recent petitions around this crisis. With so much on the line, we have to reassert our conviction again and again.

Thanks for joining Public Citizen in standing up to Donald Trump.
