We have a madman as President.
For nearly a year, Donald Trump has directed his own secret, partisan police force to terrorize our country. It’s truly monstrous, even for him.
In community after community — here in Colorado and across the country — ICE agents have ripped families apart. They’ve arrested and indefinitely detained legal U.S. residents. They’ve held people in small concrete cells the size of a parking space for hours on end.
Now, this administration’s lawlessness has stolen a life: Renee Nicole Good. A mom of two teenagers in Minneapolis.
Donald Trump doesn’t care about U.S. laws, court orders, or even international law. He said so himself: He thinks his “own morality” should be the only check on his power.
But we know Trump’s morals. We’ve seen them through his unspeakable actions and his unjustified cruelty.
It’s not “moral” to unilaterally snatch a foreign leader in the middle of the night and declare that he’ll run the country.
It’s not “moral” to threaten our democratic allies while cozying up with a murderous, despotic dictator.
And it sure as hell isn’t “moral” to make excuse after excuse for his ICE officer who killed a woman in cold blood.
Donald Trump’s lawlessness is terrifying — not only for me, but for so many Coloradans across the state. Countless mothers and fathers have told me just how scared they are for their children and our country’s future.
Yes, this is a frightening time. But I want you to know that I’m still taking steps to rein in Trump’s abuses of power — in every way possible.
Last week, the Senate passed a War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from unilaterally using military force. Now, I’m leading the charge to get it passed in the House — so no President has the power to sell off America’s interests for their own gain.
For years, I’ve also been one of the most outspoken lawmakers in the entire country to defend our immigrant communities from Trump’s cruelty. In Colorado, I helped pass legislation in the state House to ensure Colorado’s law enforcement agencies don’t become an extension of ICE.
More than ever, it is absolutely essential that we all stand up and speak out against Trump’s actions. Loudly, passionately, and peacefully. That’s what I’m doing in Congress and home in Colorado — and I know I can count on you to do the same.
