Friends, I’m extremely proud to share that Leader Hakeem Jeffries has named me parliamentarian of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
What does that mean? Fair question! First, it means I’m the newest member of Democratic House leadership, which I’m very excited about.
But more importantly, it’s a major opportunity to help shape the priorities and strategies of House Democrats. Right now, it’s crucial for Democrats to be bold, united, and both responsive and forward-looking.
We’re two weeks into 2026, and this year has already been incredibly hard for our country. ICE is on a rampage. Donald Trump has kidnapped a world leader and launched illegal and unauthorized military operations. And costs are still out of control.
So even though we’re in the minority right now, Democrats must leverage every tool we possibly can to stop Trump from shredding the Constitution and further eroding our democracy.
We also need to be focused on the future — building a proactive agenda that earns back the trust of the American people by responding to their urgent needs.
America is in an unprecedented moment, with high and rising stakes. As part of Democratic House leadership, I’ll work every day to make sure our work reflects the experience and talent of the Democrats elected to serve.
