In 2015, at the age of 22, I joined the Navy. After basic training, I was assigned to the USS Bainbridge (DDG-96), the guided-missile destroyer that took part in the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips. 

Formally, I served as an Operations Specialist, which meant that I did everything from operating radar, navigations, communications, and tracking targets for tactical operations. But I was also selected for many additional duties on deck to support my team: I became medic-trained, and joined both my crew’s Security Reaction Force and Emergency Response Teams. 

I’m proud of my formative experience aboard the Bainbridge. Not everyone is trusted with such high-level responsibility in the Navy, much less in the private sector or corporate world.

But here’s the thing: even a structured, disciplined organization like the Navy can be just like any other dysfunctional workplace. The people operating in these organizations matter so much more than you might think.

That’s why I am asking the people of Arizona’s 9th District to task me with representing them in one of the most dysfunctional workplaces in the entire country: the United States Congress. 

Congress will never work for the American people unless we clean House and fire the incompetent, petty, and toxic people who have no business serving there. 

The man I am working to defeat this year, MAGA Rep. Paul Gosar, is at the very top of this list. Gosar is an election denier, a right-wing extremist, and an avowed white supremacist.

Paul Gosar serving in the House of Representatives is like a pirate taking command of the USS Bainbridge—wrong, dangerous, and destructive.
