Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew shared an update on the forward progress of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's takeover of the Atlantic City Housing Authority (ACHA). In July of 2025, Congressman Van Drew announced the historic decision for HUD to step in and take control of the ACHA after years of mismanagement. Since then, HUD has completed a comprehensive review and restructuring of the Authority, focused on accountability and improving conditions for residents. As a part of that effort, HUD has now posted approximately 25-40 new job opportunities to support operations and services at the ACHA.
"I have always said the residents living under the previous ACHA deserved better, and now we are finally seeing some real progress," said Congressman Van Drew. "HUD came in, did a full overhaul, and focused on what actually matters: putting residents first. Now that work is paying off. HUD has opened 25-40 new jobs tied to this turnaround, bringing new opportunities right here to Atlantic City. These jobs are being offered through HUD's Section 3 program, which is designed to make sure federal housing dollars create jobs for local residents, especially those living in public housing or low-income neighborhoods. The positions cover a wide range of areas, including administration, maintenance and operations, information technology, and more. Through this work, we are getting true South Jersey people who have a vested interest in the community to do some good here. This is real progress, and it is just the beginning."
Individuals and businesses interested in Section 3 opportunities are encouraged to apply directly through the Atlantic City Housing Authority website here.
