JOHN,
Today, the Senate plans to vote on a War Powers Resolution, which would require Trump to get congressional approval before taking any more military actions against Venezuela.
Last week, the Senate voted 52-47 to advance the resolution, with 5 Republicans joining Democrats. But Trump was apparently furious at the Republicans who voted with Democrats and since then has been pressuring the Republicans to vote no when it comes to the floor.
In response to Trump’s ire, Republicans are considering using Senate rules to table the vote altogether, claiming that the resolution does not qualify for expedited status because there are not currently U.S. troops on the ground in Venezuela.
We need to stop this authoritarian president from ordering another illegal military strike. Our Senators need to hear from us now.
Will you sign the petition to urge the Senate to stop Trump’s imperialist war against Venezuela?
If enough Republican Senators stand up to Trump and pass this Venezuela War Powers Resolution, reclaiming Congress’ authority to authorize war, we then have to pass it in the House of Representatives. But it’s not just Venezuela where Trump is illegally wielding power. He is also threatening to invade Greenland and other countries, so Congress must block other imperialist wars as well.
I’m leading the fight to ban Congress members from owning stock in weapons corporations, and I’ll keep demanding our government fund our communities’ rather than endless war.
Half of each year’s nearly-trillion-dollar Pentagon budget goes to corporations, which donate to many of my colleagues. Fossil fuel corporations are also deeply entwined with our federal government, and Trump has been clear that he’s attacking Venezuela for its oil.
Together, we’ll keep demanding a government for the people, not corporate profits.
In solidarity,
Rashida

John,
Were you one of the thousands of Americans who came out to emergency anti-war protests the past few days?
I joined some of my constituents at a recent protest. Please sign this petition to join me in standing with the American people against Trump’s unconstitutional and imperialist war on Venezuela.
Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, and Trump’s not hiding it: His illegal attacks on Venezuela—which have already killed over 150 people—are about stealing oil for billionaires’ profits.
Rather than informing Congress as is legally required, Trump instead informed U.S. oil company CEOs before the military attacks. This is oligarchy!
This U.S.-forced regime change in Venezuela has already driven up stock prices for fossil fuel and weapons corporations. Trump and his donors will likely personally benefit financially.
Some of my colleagues in Congress will also benefit from these unlawful military actions in Venezuela—whether through stocks and investments or through direct donations from companies that will profit off this. They need to hear from us now.
Please sign the petition to demand the Senate block Trump’s illegal war against Venezuela by passing the War Powers Resolution in tomorrow’s vote. And as Trump threatens to invade additional countries, demand Congress act now to stop Trump’s imperialist wars.
For much of our country’s history, our government has destabilized other countries’ governments in order to control their resources and install U.S.-friendly leaders—often dictators.
These imperialist actions have undermined democracy in other countries and violated human rights that are affirmed by international law, such as the right to self-determination.
They also undermine U.S. democracy. The American people want our taxpayer dollars to fund healthcare, housing, food, and other basic needs—not bombs or endless wars.
At the recent emergency protest I attended, my constituents held signs with messages such as: “Defund the Pentagon, fund human needs!”
Last month I voted NO on the annual military budget, which unfortunately passed and authorized nearly a trillion dollars for death and destruction—about the same amount that Congress cut from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
We must keep pressuring lawmakers to stand with the American people, not military corporations.
Please sign on today to demand Congress stop Trump’s illegal war on Venezuela, end forever wars, and invest in our communities rather than bombs and weapons.
Thank you for taking action. Together, we must continue pushing the U.S. government to comply with international law and respect everyone’s human rights, including our rights to self-determination, healthcare, housing, and food.
We will continue working toward a country and a world where everyone has what they need to not only survive, but thrive.
In solidarity,
Rashida
