Dear AU Supporter,
On Friday, America celebrates Religious Freedom Day. Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom laid the foundation for the First Amendment to our U.S. Constitution. It was passed by the Virginia Senate on January 16, 1786, and signed into law three days later.
But do you know what religious freedom really means – and how it is being challenged today? In advance of the 250th anniversary of America's birth later this year, Christian Nationalists are hard at work spreading disinformation about religious freedom and the role religion played in our nation's founding.
Take our quiz to test your knowledge about religious freedom, church-state separation, and ongoing threats from Christian Nationalists.

To honor the legacy of our country’s fundamental principle of religious freedom, I hope you’ll join me today in recommitting to protecting the separation of church and state – the shield that protects religious freedom and so many other rights and freedoms we care about.
