A new year should bring peace of mind for older Americans. However, this year’s small Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), higher Medicare premiums and high inflation on virtually everything mean ongoing financial uncertainty for millions of seniors.
And across the country, Americans who earned their Social Security benefits through a lifetime of work are running into serious problems at the Social Security Administration (SSA) — longer wait times, reduced customer service and systems that simply don’t work when people need them most.
The problems continue to mount at SSA because of the Trump Administration’s disastrous policy decisions:
Staffing cuts at SSA have left fewer workers to answer phones, process claims and help seniors navigate retirement, disability and survivor benefits;
Online systems continue to crash under demand; and
Reassignments have forced out experienced civil servants
At a time when SSA’s staffing is already at a 50-year low and 10,000 new baby boomers turn age 65 each and every day, these and many other harmful policy changes at SSA are devastating customer service for millions of older Americans.
For more 90 years, Social Security has been a lifeline that millions of older Americans could count on for a secure retirement. But now that promise is being put at risk. |
And powerful conservative think tanks are using this assault on SSA and seniors’ programs and services as an opportunity to push for sweeping changes that would “reimagine” Social Security — changes that could weaken the program permanently and open the door to benefit cuts and privatization.

Your petition will call on President Trump to: |
Restore adequate staffing and customer service at SSA
Ensure seniors can access their earned benefits without barriers
Reject any proposal to weaken or cut Social Security
When seniors speak out together, our elected officials listen. |
