Several key state legislatures are back in session, and map manipulators are wasting no time to try to rig the midterm elections.

Already, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a special legislative session to force through a mid-decade redistricting process in the fight that Republicans see as the “crown jewel” of their gerrymandering scheme.

Donald Trump is telling Republican lawmakers they need to do whatever it takes to win the midterms, and we expect several state legislatures to fall in line, just as Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina did. Our fight for fair maps has never been more urgent.

This is shaping up to be both a marathon and a sprint at the same time. Rush in your donation to ensure the NDRC can fight back every step of the way. Your gift equips our teams with the resources needed to take on these attacks in every state that joins this redistricting crisis. [[link removed]]

Read more below on what’s ahead in this state legislative season that will determine the fate of our democracy in 2026 and beyond.

— ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW —

Florida and South Carolina’s state legislative sessions will start in just a few days — opening the door for Republicans to push new attempts to redraw congressional maps.

Our work to stop Republicans’ attempts to rig our maps before the 2026 midterms is full steam ahead.

As the state legislative season kicks into high gear, make a donation to the NDRC to ensure we can mobilize wherever we’re needed in the coming months. Republicans have told us they aren't finished attempting to rig the midterms — and your donation is an investment in making sure their power grab fails. [[link removed]]

Already, it’s looking like 2026 will be a hectic and lengthy legislative season — meaning it might be a while before the congressional maps for the midterm election this November are set.

We know that Donald Trump and his allies across the country are going to extreme lengths to keep their grip on power. They've stooped to new lows, including bribery and extortion, to pressure state lawmakers to fall in line.

But as Donald Trump’s pressure campaign gets increasingly desperate, the American people are resisting this democratic crisis. In states like Indiana, voters rose up and persuaded a bipartisan majority of state senators to reject the extreme Republican gerrymander. In Missouri, 300,000 citizens signed petitions to put their gerrymandered map on the ballot to fight to restore a fair congressional map.

This is a fight we can win — we can stop Republicans from rigging the midterm elections. But it will take all of us working together.

We know that as soon as legislative sessions begin, extreme lawmakers will push gerrymandered maps forward. Help us prepare for the fights ahead and equip us with the resources necessary to fight back, anywhere and everywhere. [[link removed]]

Thank you for being with us in this fight — more to come from us soon.
