Friend,

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, over two million New Yorkers have filed an unemployment claim.

Our state was not prepared to process these claims causing delays in accessing unemployment, an unacceptable outcome for those in need. I am proud that my office has been able to help more than 1,000 people cut through the bureaucracy to get the benefits they're owed. Still, it shouldn’t be this difficult to ensure people get the support they need. During the COVID-19 crisis and beyond, we need to make it easier to lift up and help those in need.

A crisis is coming. We must extend the Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program to protect the millions of New Yorkers who have lost their jobs and have been unable to go back to work as well as the millions of business owners, self-employed Americans, gig workers and independent contractors.

We need to get loud. Join me in calling for the extension of unemployment insurance benefits for every American who cannot go back to work. Now is not the time to deprive people of their only financial lifeline — sign the petition to extend the program: [link removed]

Let us know you are behind us in calling for real support to working class people in the district and beyond.

I know that we can get through this together — we can’t go back to the more austere times that left us with these problems in the first place.

In Service,

Andrew
