Representative Matt Gaetz
U.S. Representative for the First District of Florida

Hello, Friends —

America is a great nation. A great nation does not allow her cities to fall victim to the angry mob. Sadly, in cities across the nation, Americans have been left behind by Democrats who are more concerned with closing churches and police departments than protecting their citizens. Watching these scenes unfold makes me even more glad for Florida’s strong leadership under Governor DeSantis.

JOHN LEWIS, AMERICAN ICON

On Friday, July 17, Congressman John Lewis of Georgia passed away after a six-month battle with cancer. Congressman Lewis was a passionate advocate for civil rights throughout his life. In 1963, he spoke at the “March on Washington” — the same place where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his monumental “I Have a Dream” speech.

Rep. Lewis represented Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District for seventeen terms in the House of Representatives. He spent his life fighting for, and in service to, his fellow Americans. Next week, he will lie in state — a well-deserved honor for an exemplary American. His presence enriched the Congress, and he will be missed.

COVID-19 ROUNDTABLE

This week, I participated in a roundtable discussion with Florida Rep. Alex Andrade, where we discussed Florida’s response to COVID-19, and the local resources available to Northwest Floridians as we continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic.

I applaud the recent efforts made by Rep. Andrade and Governor DeSantis to control the spread of COVID-19, and I look forward to seeing what else they will accomplish.

One dead, one injured in domestic dispute on Hurlburt Field

I am deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy at Hurlburt Field. My prayers are with all involved, including the families, first responders, and servicemembers on this tremendous base. I am confident our military community will join together in support of one another during this difficult time.
