Some people may think 27 people getting together on any given Sunday is a party. For us, it’s family dinner.
My sisters, brother, and I all live in the same neighborhood. We go over to mom and dad’s almost every Sunday with our combined 17 children for burgers, fellowship, and fun.
Even when dad is serving in Congress during the week, he makes time to come home, be with us children and his grandchildren. That all comes from how much he values family.
Faith, family, and freedom were pillars growing up in our house, and they still are today.
Mom and dad both came from very traditional homes. Their moms were stay-at-home moms, and family meals were the center of their childhoods. Dinner at the table wasn’t optional. It was where they connected, where they learned about hard work, responsibility, and love.
That’s something dad has carried with him his whole life, and it’s one of the reasons he’ll be such a principled leader as Governor of South Carolina.
