Trump’s Department of Justice announced this weekend that they are opening an investigation into the Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell.

 

This isn’t about uncovering actual wrong-doing or pursuing justice. The fact is, Trump wants Jerome Powell gone, but the Federal Reserve is an independent institution. 

 

But independent institutions only work if they’re allowed to be independent. Using the justice system to punish public servants who won’t bend to political pressure is a dangerous abuse of power.
