The Legislature is Back in Town
We will reconvene the 114th Session of the Tennessee General Assembly today at 12pm CT. I sincerely appreciate the trust you have placed in me to continue representing your interests in our state legislature. It is truly an honor to continue serving you and our beloved state. Once the gavel strikes, we will officially be off and running. Because Republicans have managed to run our state off the fiscal cliff and it's an election year, I expect this session to be a full-on sprint from the start. It is my hope that we will adjourn quickly and limit the harm the supermajority and Gov. Bill Lee continue to inflict upon our state. While my fellow House Democrats and I will once again introduce and promote an agenda to increase affordability and improve every Tennesseans' quality of life, it appears we will be facing an onslaught of controversial legislation fed to our colleagues across the aisle by Stephen Miller. The difference between our respective legislative agendas could not be more clear. Republicans' agenda is originating from the worst of the White House, and ours is coming straight from the families of Tennessee. Traveling the state last year and holding town halls in eleven rural communities from Dyersburg to Elizabethton to listen and learn guided and informed not only my entire legislative package but also our entire caucus' approach to this upcoming session. I will share more about our legislative package in upcoming newsletters. Stay tuned!
