This is where we’re at right now.
ICE’s murder of Renee Good in broad daylight is horrific and unacceptable. This harrowing tragedy should never have happened. That’s why I renewed my calls to abolish ICE and hold the agents involved fully accountable.
How did the Trump Administration respond? They published a list of times myself and my colleagues “declared war” on law enforcement.
I’m not going to let them scare me away from speaking the truth: The actions of ICE are unlawful and unconstitutional.
They are cruel.
They are rogue.
They are racist.
They are sowing chaos and terrorizing communities — and it has nothing to do with public safety.
Renee Good was an unarmed citizen driving on a residential street, and she was shot in her car three times from point blank range. So whatever Jedi mind tricks Republicans think they can use on the American people to try to talk us out of what we can clearly see, what our bodies experience, and the trauma that our communities are carrying throughout this country, it’s just not happening.
Keith Porter in Los Angeles lost his life. Silverio Garcia in Chicago lost his life. We haven't even started to talk about what is happening to folks detained by ICE behind closed doors — and the number of deaths that have occurred out of sight. This is why, for many years, I've been calling to abolish ICE. And why I’m renewing my calls that Congress do everything in its power to rein in the terror of this lawless, rogue agency — no matter what the Administration tries to do to punish those who speak out.
