** Not the hero California deserves, but the hero California needs.
------------------------------------------------------------
Politico ([link removed]) (1/13/26) reports: "President Donald Trump isn’t satisfied with simply setting national energy policy. His administration wants to set the California agenda too. The year since Trump declared a national energy emergency and thrust the U.S. into an oil-all-the-way strategy has been full of examples of his administration using the many tentacles of the federal government to delve into Golden State matters. Think: axing funding for offshore wind port development in Humboldt County and smashing the state’s hydrogen hub...Last month, federal pipeline administrators wrested oversight of the pipeline system owned by oil producer Sable Offshore Corp. from the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, and then promptly greenlighted the company’s restart plan...The Trump administration is also wading into Pacific Gas & Electric’s plan to dismantle a hydroelectric project and two dams on Northern
California’s Eel River. That one is more about water than power, with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins taking the lead."

** "The newest Democrat party line is 'affordability,' but renewable energy in California shows how not to be affordable."

Let's see what SCOTUS has to say.

** Axios ([link removed])
(1/13/25) reports: "Clean-energy advocates and a Minnesota city won a partial victory Monday when a federal court judge ruled that the Trump administration acted unlawfully when it canceled energy-related grants in blue states. Why it matters: It's the latest example of the courts countering the administration's moves. Driving the news: The city of St. Paul, Minn., and several energy and environmental groups argued in a November lawsuit that the $7.5 billion in energy project cancellations violated the First and Fifth Amendments...The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia found in favor of the groups on their Fifth Amendment claim. But Judge Amit P. Mehta ruled the plaintiffs lacked legal standing for their First Amendment claims...'We disagree with the judge's decision and stand by our review process, which evaluated these awards individually and determined they did not meet the standards necessary to justify the continued spending of taxpayer dollars,' the Energy Department
said."

Odd that data centers only seem to raise energy prices in blue states.

** E&E News ([link removed])
(1/13/25) reports: "A pair of House Democrats are moving to address the impacts of data centers with two bills that would impose new restrictions on energy and water use at those facilities. Reps. Rob Menendez of New Jersey and Greg Casar of Texas introduced the 'Preventing Rate Inflation in Consumer Energy (PRICE) Act,' H.R. 6983, and the “Data Center Transparency Act,” H.R. 6984, arguing the measures are needed to rein in rising electricity costs and environmental impacts associated with artificial intelligence-driven data center growth. 'While AI innovation is promising, we must ensure that our constituents are not negatively impacted by the industry’s continued expansion,' Menendez said. 'New Jersey families have seen their electricity bills increase by 20 percent because of the rapid growth of energy-intensive AI data centers.'"
