Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
ADVANCING FEDERAL SPENDING BILLS
Last week, the House passed three major funding bills to help keep the government running for the full year. They fund public safety, science, environmental programs, and critical energy and water infrastructure.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee and Energy & Water Subcommittee, I worked on these bills to advance fiscally responsibility and focus on essential priorities, whilea voiding partisan add-ons. I also spoke on the House floor in support of this package.
ACADEMY DAY FOR FL-18 STUDENTS
My office is hosting our annual Academy Day on Saturday, February 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the George Jenkins High School Auditorium in Lakeland for 8th through 11th grade students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy.
Officials from each academy will be on hand to discuss the application process, academy requirements and congressional nominations. The program begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. For more information, click here.
MAXIMIZING EPA PRODUCTIVITY
As a member of the House Science Committee, I participated in a hearing last week examining the EPA’s chemical review process and its impact on American innovation and competitiveness.
I raised concerns about regulatory backlogs and delays that leave companies waiting years for decisions the law requires in months. Witnesses made clear that this uncertainty discourages innovation, pushes investment overseas and weakens U.S. competitiveness.
A well-functioning EPA is essential to fostering innovation, keeping jobs in the United States and maintaining America’s leadership in advanced manufacturing and new technologies. Watch my remarks here.
