Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

Stripping $1 Million for a “Somali-run” Taxpayer Earmark

Last week, I led House Republicans in stripping a $1 million earmark, requested by Rep. Ilhan Omar, for a “Somali-run” community center program in Minneapolis from the Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations package. Buried in hundreds of personal funding requests from members of Congress laid this particularly egregious example of potential government waste, fraud, and abuse. With the recent revelations around the massive and widespread fraud occurring in Minnesota, particularly from the Somali immigrant community, I could not allow taxpayer dollars to continue to be siphoned off and vulnerable to fraud. I look forward to the findings of the investigations announced by the Department of Justice, so that we may finally hold to account the elected officials who presided over this fraud. I discussed further in an interview with Fox Business, which you can watch here.

Rep. Roy on Defeating Ilhan Omar’s Funding request: "I am particularly proud to have personally worked to stop an outrageous $1 million grant towards a ‘Somali-run’ community center program in Minnesota funded as an ‘earmark’ by Rep. Omar.  With one of the biggest fraud scandals in American history happening in real time involving Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison – we should turn the spigot off and prosecute anyone who violated the law, not give them more money.  We should end the earmark game in Washington that serves as the currency of corruption."

You can see the removal of this egregious earmark here.

More Unjustified Earmarks in the Appropriations Package

In addition to stripping Rep. Omar’s earmark, I identified at least 20 other funding requests from members of Congress to entities that have no business taking taxpayer dollars. Among the worst include: $750,000 requested by Rep. Greg Casar to a program started by Travis County DA Jose Garza for a program to divert juvenile offenders from punishment using “restorative justice,” $1,999,999 requested by Sen. Bernie Sanders for a legal clinic that fought to provide welfare benefits to illegal aliens, and $1,031,000 requested by Rep. Gomez for a program that provides legal services to illegal aliens fighting deportation cases. Your taxpayer dollars also funded DEI “education” programs at universities, “climate justice” initiatives, and a fleet of drones to monitor tuna fish. As a result of such blatant wastes of taxpayer dollars, I voted against the Commerce, Justice, and Science bill, and against final passage of the appropriations bill.

Rep. Roy on the Appropriations Package: "I voted against the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill because it utterly fails to address the blatant denial of justice across the country by sanctuary cities, funds outrageous wasteful earmarks, and continues to fund grant programs ripe for abuse and fraud.

Even as we see the Mayor of Minneapolis telling ICE to ‘get the F out,’ cities like Chicago fighting against enforcement of our immigration laws, and other rampant fraud being exposed among Somalis and generally, Congress refuses to stop funding these sanctuary cities that routinely undermine public safety. Worse, the bill provide grants for legal aid to illegal aliens, give grants for ‘racial justice,’ ‘restorative justice,’ and ‘climate justice.’

The only thing shocking is that only 40 Republicans voted against this abomination.

We are drowning in debt as a nation and we are funding the social welfare state we complain about being rampant with fraud.

How about we stop that? Novel idea."

Rep. Roy Votes Against Extending Obamacare Subsidies

President Trump said it exactly right last week: give Americans the money to buy their own healthcare plans and cut off the crony capitalists in Big Insurance who fund the Democrats. That’s why I voted against expanding Obamacare subsidies, especially when we have great alternatives, such as Health Savings Accounts and Direct Primary Care, that put patients and doctors first. Unfortunately, 17 of my Republican colleagues disagreed and sided with Democrats to pass an extension of Obamacare for three years. If you’re serious about lowering costs, you don’t double down on Obamacare—you dismantle the system that made healthcare unaffordable in the first place. I discussed further on Fox Business, which you can watch here.

Freedom Caucus Letter on 2026 Agenda

Last week, the House Freedom Caucus wrote a letter to Speaker Johnson outlining what a conservative policy agenda for 2026 should look like. Totaling 16 different issue areas, our letter outlines key reforms and bold new ideas we can implement this year to Make America Great Again and fulfill our promises to the American people. At the top of the list is the importance of passing my bill, H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, which would secure American elections by ensuring only U.S. citizens can vote. Already passed by the House, pressure is mounting in the Senate to take up this crucial piece of legislation. Additionally, our letter emphasized the importance of Congressional oversight to cut down in waste, fraud, and abuse, codifying President Trump’s border actions in H.R. 2, and passing H.R. 6225, the PAUSE Act, to pause all immigration so that we can make fundamental reforms to keep America prosperous. As the Policy Director for the Freedom Caucus, I also fought to include an agenda item on rebuilding American home ownership, an initiative I was pleased to see President Trump echo last week. Through cracking down on corporate ownership of single-family housing stock, eliminating foreign ownership, and deregulating development, we can make American homeownership the norm for American families again.

Rep. Roy on The Freedom Caucus 2026 Policy Agenda: "The House Freedom Caucus and I have outlined priorities for House Republicans to take on: establish a select committee to investigate these groups and to crack down on Somali fraud – let’s get it done."

Rules Committee Meets on Affordability Bills

Last Monday, the House Rules Committee met to advance H.R. 5184, the Affordable HOMES Act, and H.R. 4593, the SHOWER Act. The Affordable Homes Act removed bureaucratic bloat and eliminated Biden-era regulations that stifled our supply of manufactured homes. The SHOWER Act codified one of President Trump’s executive orders on water nozzle flow rates to enable Americans to purchase shower heads with greater water pressure. I was proud to vote in favor of reporting both of these bills to slash government regulations and ensure that American consumers have greater choice.

Rep. Roy on H.R. 5184 and 4593 Act: “The Biden Administration spent four years trying to regulate every aspect of American’s lives. House Republicans are committed to eliminating that bureaucratic overreach to return choice back o Americans.”

You can read the SHOWER Act, here, and the Affordable HOMES Act, here.

Interview with Steve Bannon on War Room

Last week, I joined Steve Bannon on his show, War Room, to talk about the urgency of tackling the widespread fraud taking place in Minnesota and the need for the SAVE Act (H.R. 22). Coinciding with unprecedented illegal and legal migration under Presidents Biden and Obama, our once great American cities are now being drained of resources, and taxpayers are being left on the hook. As Minnesotans have seen recently, when new voters are imported who do not share compatible values, diverging political priorities are created that foster fraud. Never before has the clarity of the SAVE Act (H.R. 22) been so clear. By passing this bill, we will ensure only American citizens vote in elections and restore strength to our electoral system, preventing fraud at the ballot box and in welfare schemes.

Rep. Roy on War Room: “They're engaging in massive, not just fraud, but an effort to pack America with noncitizens so they can take our country over. That's what's happening.

You know it, I know it, and we've got to be militant about this, and we've got to make sure that ONLY American citizens are voting

Stop importing people who want to kill us. It's maddening, and Congress hasn't caught up to the fact that they're at war with us. You got to act like they're at war with us, or you're going to lose it."

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

On January 9th, I joined millions of Americans in honoring our Law Enforcement personnel for National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. As a former prosecutor, I have had the privilege of working alongside our brave law enforcement officers to protect Texans. Law enforcement is like no other job, and our officers constantly deal with difficult and dangerous circumstances to keep us safe. The heroism shown by our local and state police and federal agents is matched only by their dedication to improving our communities. I am proud to call so many officers and agents my friends and hope you will all join me in prayer and appreciation for all the hard work they do.

Rep. Roy on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day: “Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, where we honor the brave men and women who’ve answered the call to uphold public order and the Constitution. I am eternally grateful for the bravery and selflessness of our peace officers in Texas and nationwide.”
