Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good afternoon,

This week, I flew back to Washington, D.C. for a busy week of votes in the House and an important Homeland Security Committee hearing where I discussed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s response to the Coronavirus in Arizona. I also attended a markup in the Judiciary Committee on Democrat bills meant to infringe on President Trump's Constitutional authority to grant pardons. I could not support multiple Democrat bills, such as the NO BAN Act and Access to Counsel Act, that were merely aimed at attacking the president and would ultimately undermine our border security here in Arizona and our national security around the nation.

Coronavirus Survey

As we continue to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic, I value your input. Please take time to fill out this survey on schools reopening and the state and federal governments' handling of the pandemic.

Legislative Update

I recently introduced legislation to protect America’s monuments, memorials, and statues from the ongoing violence in our nation. This bill will ensure that anyone who destroys or vandalizes a monument is prosecuted. It also denies federal funding and other funding from state and local law enforcement agencies that fail to protect these statues and monuments. This is an important piece of legislation that will protect our history from deliberate destruction and seeks to prevent further violence and destruction across our country.

Encouraging Stories

I loved to see this story about a nonprofit called Back To School Clothing Drive that was able to hold their annual back-to-school drive for children in need. This year, they set up a drive-thru event at Luke Air Force Base to provide hundreds of families with clothing and supplies, including school supplies, backpacks, and school uniforms. It is so great to see people working through the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic to give back to the community and help those in need.

I also enjoyed seeing this story about some superhero children who dropped off pizza and donuts at the Goodyear Police Department!

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office because she applied for her passport in March and months later had not received her documents or passport, but her application check had been cashed immediately. Our office reached out to the National Passport Information Center, and they identified the application. Following our inquiry, they confirmed they sent the documents to the constituent, and shortly after, the constituent confirmed with us that she did receive her passport.

Coronavirus Casework Highlight

A constituent called our office because she was having multiple issues receiving unemployment benefits. She was unable to reach anyone at the Department of Economic Security (DES) to help her resolve these issues. Our office sent her information to our contact at DES, and they contacted the constituent and helped to resolve her issues and receive the benefits.
