As we kick off the New Year, the American people rightfully expect our Republican-led Congress to deliver key wins in 2026.

After all, Americans handed President Trump a decisive mandate on November 5th, 2024. It's imperative that Congress doesn’t waste this incredible opportunity.

So far, our Republican Congress has enacted historic working family tax cuts, spending reductions, regulatory rollbacks, and entitlement reform in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Additionally, we passed strong legislation, such as the Laken Riley Act and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, and held discretionary spending flat.

Yet you deserve more results.

That’s why my House Freedom Caucus colleagues and I recently sent a letter to Speaker Johnson highlighting the dire need to advance a bold, America First agenda in 2026.

Our plan is quite simple: Our Republican Congress must do what we promised to the American people.

Last week, the House made progress in the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) appropriations process by passing three more FY26 annual spending bills. Due to my hard-fought efforts, one of these pieces of legislation, the FY26 Energy and Water Development appropriations bill, includes exciting wins for the Ninth District, including:

• A provision that mirrors my Lanier Parks Local Access Act, allowing local partners that manage multiple recreation sites at a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) civil works project to spend collected user fees across all sites they oversee at that project, rather than being limited to using the fees only at the specific site where the funds were collected.
• Bill report language prohibiting the USACE from using taxpayer funds to rename either Buford Dam or Lake Lanier.

For years, I’ve worked tirelessly to secure measures that preserve and improve our beloved landmark for locals and visitors alike. Thankfully, this House-passed spending bill includes wins that protect Lake Lanier’s name and help keep its parks open for folks to safely enjoy. I’m pleased that these initiatives are one step closer to becoming law — delivering effective solutions to Ninth District families, small businesses, and local governments.

I’m excited to welcome high school students in the Ninth District to participate in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition! Since 1982, this annual contest has provided an awesome opportunity for young artists across the nation to show off their creativity and artistic skills.

Submissions are due by February 20th, and the winning artist’s entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for one year. During the heart of winter, most folks stay indoors and out of the elements — not the case in White County! On January 3rd, hundreds gathered in Helen for the annual Winter Bear Plunge at Unicoi State Park. Brave participants took the plunge into the frigid waters of Unicoi Lake, all in the name of a good cause. Raffle tickets sold during the event helped raise funds that go directly toward park improvements and upkeep, ensuring this treasured destination remains well cared for and accessible for years to come.

Events like this are a great reminder that even in the cold winter months, our District’s appreciation for community and the great outdoors continues to shine. 

This week, House lawmakers are in Washington to advance two more Fiscal Year 2026 spending bills: the Financial Services & General Government and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs appropriations. Additionally, we will consider the following pieces of legislation:

• H.R. 2270, the Empowering Child and Elder Care Solutions Act: This legislation lowers the cost and cuts the red tape for employers to offer child or dependent care assistance, treats these pro-family benefits similarly to other employer-provided benefits, and increases access to care for hardworking American families.
• H.R. 2312, the Tipped Employee Protection Act: This bill amends the Fair Labor Standards Act to clarify the tipped worker definition, preserves the tipped wage system, and limits bureaucrats from implementing arbitrary restrictions or requirements on tipped employees’ hours or duties that hurt workers and industries like the restaurant industry that rely on tipped workers.
• H.R. 2262, the Flexibility for Workers Education Act: This bill amends the Fair Labor Standards Act to exclude time spent on voluntary growth and professional development opportunities by an employee outside of regular work hours from counting toward hours worked for the purposes of minimum wage and overtime compensation, as long as participation is voluntary and no work is performed for the employer during the activities.
• H.R. 4366, the Save Local Business Act: This legislation restores a commonsense joint-employer standard by amending the National Labor Relations Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act to define joint employers as two or more employers that have “actual, direct, and immediate” control over employees, providing clarity for workers and employers and preventing future overreach while protecting job creation.
• H.R. 2988, the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings: This bill forces financial institutions to focus on maximizing returns in retirement plans instead of woke environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors by ensuring financial institutions base investment decisions on economic factors and complete information is provided to retirement investors.
