Dear John,
Did you hear us on NPR’s Up First this morning?
As the show covered the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was fatally shot by a federal ICE agent in Minneapolis, they also shared the story of a vigil our community held in her honor.
When reporters described the neighborhood where this happened, their words were both heartbreaking and beautiful: “There is a lot of fear here. There is also a lot of care for neighbors”.
Sunrisers in the Twin Cities brought people together to grieve, to protect one another, and to be visible in a moment when fear is meant to keep communities silent. As we walked together, leading hundreds of people down the street, we sang one of our favorite songs from Sunrise:
I am not afraid.
I will stand for liberation
because I know why I was made.
Right now, Sunrise is helping lead the fight to hold ICE accountable in the Twin Cities. We’re leading vigils, organizing alongside immigrant communities, and building power to push back against a system that relies on violence and fear to operate.
This work doesn’t happen by accident. If we’re going to keep organizing, protecting our communities, and standing for liberation, we need your support.
What we always say at Sunrise — and what drives our mission — is that we fight for the people we love and the places we call home. That has never been more true than it is today, as we stand with our neighbors facing violence and oppression from the federal forces in our city.
Your contribution helps fund on-the-ground organizing, rapid response, and long-term movement-building, so our communities are not left alone.
In Solidarity,
Team Sunrise
