![]() Last week, Donald Trump gave a long interview to the New York Times, where he made some appalling statements I wanted to respond to. First of all, when asked about his invasion of Venezuela and any limits power to invade or coerce other countries, he brushed off international law and the very idea of accountability, saying: Congress must demand transparency and hold those in power accountable before more lives are put at risk. For too long, Trump has been rewarded for his reckless disregard for the Constitution. And it’s clear he only feels more unrestrained during this presidency. When asked about his family’s expanding foreign business interests that Trump himself still profits from, Trump said: “I found out that nobody cared, and I’m allowed to.” John, that attitude is exactly the problem. I believe the American people do care if the president and his family make hundreds of millions through foreign business projects and corrupt cryptocurrency schemes. Especially when that means their interests are not put first. It’s up to Congress and the American people to show Trump that he’s wrong: Trump’s lawlessness—in its many forms from foreign invasions, to federal overreach, to personal profiteering—will not go unanswered.
