Island County Planning and Community Development released draft comprehensive documents for public review. Read on for more information on how to comment and upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities.

Public Meetings on the Draft Comprehensive Plan Start this Thursday

In person public meetings will be held on the following days:

  • Oak Harbor: Jan. 15, from 5 to 6:30 PM in The Center Multi-Purpose Room, located at 51 SE Jerome St, Oak Harbor, WA.
  • South Whidbey: Jan. 20, from 5 to 6:30 PM in the Clinton Community Hall, located at 6411 S Central Ave, Clinton, WA.
  • Camano: Jan. 24, from 10 to 11:30 AM in the Island County Convergence Room, located at 121 N East Camano Drive, Camano Island, WA.

Staff will present an overview of the released materials. Presentations will begin 30 minutes after meeting start time listed above. There will be time for questions at the end. All meetings will follow the same format, join any date or location that is convenient for you.

Draft Materials Released for 60 Day Public Comment Period

As part of the 2025 Comprehensive Plan update, staff have released draft elements, development regulations, and SEPA environmental review for public review and input. Public comments will be accepted until February 9, 2026. Visit our website for more information and details on how to comment.

Other Engagement Opportunities

Long Range Planning will be meeting with the Board and the Planning Commission in January and February to discuss the draft materials for the 2025 Comprehensive Plan update. Work sessions at the Board and Planning Commission on the draft comp plan materials are planned for the following dates and topics (materials can be found in agenda center the week prior to the meetings).

The planned meeting dates & topics include:

  • January 14 – Environment (Climate and Natural Resources Elements)
  • January 21 – Infrastructure (Transportation, Parks, and Capital Facilities and Utilities Elements)
  • February 4 – Economic Development and Clinton Subarea Plan
