When federal agents hide their identities, throw people into unmarked vans, and refuse to show their badges, that’s not law enforcement, it’s state violence. It also makes it easier for impostors to impersonate them. In 2025, there were at least two dozen cases of people posing as ICE agents to commit crimes. The time to act is now. State legislators have the power to curb Trump’s secret police tactics and protect our communities – we’ve identified a list of steps they can take to fight back: Prohibit any law enforcement agents in your state from obscuring their identities Limit collaboration with federal immigration enforcement that violates civil rights Establish “safe community places,” in state, city, or county facilities, where access to non-public areas requires a judicial warrant Create a hotline and online portal for the public to report harms from federal deployments or immigration enforcement
