Columnist and Democratic strategist Max Burns joined The Weekly Assignment to help recap this weekends protests and more. Max points to the polling, noting “this radicalization of ICE is staggeringly unpopular” and warns of the damage masked agents with seemingly little to no accountability will continue to do if their power isn’t reigned in.
The conversation also turned to the invasion and illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. It’s only been a week, and already it seems control has been lost with the US Embassy in Venezuela putting out a warning to American’s in the country to depart immediately and advising against anyone traveling there. Yet as the South American country turns into a tinderbox, Donald Trump is trolling everyone with late night Truth Social posts declaring himself “Acting President of Venezuela” in a mock Wikipedia page.
Is there an endgame here? “It’s amazing that we’ve found an attack on a foreign country that’s even less organized than Iraq was,” Max notes.
Finally, they look at the late breaking news over the weekend, as the DOJ targets Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, with Max highlighting the erosion of public trust this Administration continually pushes as the new normal.
