A Message from Start Early Board President Mary Hasten


I am writing to you today to share that after more than a decade leading Start Early’s steadfast efforts to expand access to high-quality early learning, advance policy change and strengthen systems for children and families nationwide, Diana Rauner will step down as President this June.


We’re excited to share that Celena Sarillo, currently Executive Director of Start Early Illinois, has been appointed as our next President. With deep roots in early childhood and community-based work, Celena brings a lifelong commitment to partnering with families so every child can reach their full potential.


Over the past several months, Start Early’s Board of Directors has been carefully planning this transition to support the organization’s stability, continuity and long-term strength. We are tremendously grateful for Diana’s leadership and steady partnership throughout this process and confident in Celena’s ability to build on this foundation to guide the organization forward.


On behalf of the entire Board, thank you for your continued commitment to our mission and for the support you provide to the children and families we serve.
