Just this week, Betsy DeVos was sued by the NAACP for stealing aid money away from economically disadvantaged public schools and giving it to private schools.

As an educator, I can’t sit back and watch our Secretary of Education constantly discriminate against students who come from underprivileged communities. Every student has unlimited potential and deserves the care, attention and support from the education system to realize that potential, no matter where they come from.

This is not unique behavior from DeVos. She has not only disfavored students from disadvantaged backgrounds, but also specifically children of color and LGBTQ+ students. The person in charge of students nationwide cannot be allowed to play favorites, risking children’s education and livelihood.

In addition from blatantly prioritizing private schools over public ones, just a few days ago DeVos ignored experts and scientists, and decided to lead Trump’s charge to reopen schools this fall despite surging numbers of coronavirus cases.

It's reasons like this that show DeVos is not only underqualified and unfit to serve, but a danger to every student in this country — and that’s why we need you to join our call for her resignation.
