The lungs of the planet are on fire. As you may have seen on the news, the
Amazon rainforest is experiencing historic fires, and Brazil is dragging
their feet in dealing with the crisis.

Then, the G7 dedicated a measly $20 million in aid — which Brazil
subsequently rejected. If Trump had cared at all about this environmental
crisis, he’d have worked with Brazil to convince them to take the aid, and
even offered more on top of it.

But Trump has abdicated our position of international leadership. The
United States is no longer leading the world on trade, tech, or dealing
with climate change. Instead, we’re focusing our efforts on tariffs,
appeasing Russia, and decrying the impact of windmills.

When we’re spending almost $700 billion on defense every year, we can
afford more than a few million bucks to try and save the Amazon
rainforest, which provides 20% of the earth’s oxygen.

The United States can be an international leader — we can use the model
set by states like Iowa, and export good wind technology across the world,
creating prosperity and economic activity in the process. Our President
shouldn’t be throwing our domestic green tech industry under the bus.

We need to do more to embrace the good, and minimize the bad. But first,
our leaders need to understand what they’re working with. Together, we can
make that a reality.
