Familias Reunidas Bond Program
Today we share with you one more story and picture of one of the recipients from our Families Reunidas Bond Program, Pablo. He is a Guatemalan father and husband who was detained by ICE and held at the heinous Adelanto detention facility for 4 months after having lived in the United States for 10 years.

We are overjoyed that he is now able to reunite with his wife and two children. Pablo has a 5 year old who is severely autistic and a 1 year old child.

We are heartbroken that our community, and beautiful families like Pablo’s, are still being ripped apart. We are tired of our community being victim to this administration’s racist and inhumane policies, especially in the middle of a global pandemic. We are tired of families who need and depend on each other being held at ransom by ICE.

We share these stories with you in the hopes that you  will help us put an end to these racist and unjust systems. We are so grateful that so many of you have supported our bond campaign and continue to do so in order to free as many individual as we can. We cannot stress how important it is that we do not remain silent. Your support and outrage saves lives. We encourage all of you to call your representatives and continue to oppose such inhumane policies!

Let this story serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country. Pablo represents so many others being subject to racist and inhumane policies. We must not forget the urgency of getting everyone out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. This pandemic continues to be unforgiving, and we will not allow any more lives lost.

GoFundMe Immigration Bond

Water Drops have continued to take place during the pandemic. Temperatures have ranged between 110°-120° with high humidity at times.

This weekend our team will explore two to three routes near Ocotillo and Tecate. It should be around  95°-110° – not too hot!

Since we began going out to the desert almost on a weekly basis, we have been able to cover more ground and to walk routes regularly. Before we would visit some areas every few months and, therefore, weren't able to assess how frequently migrants passed through areas. But, now we are seeing that much of the water and materials we're leaving are being consumed. This means that people are still crossing and we need everyone's help to ensure that we can continue to provide this lifesaving support!

Everyone that has been joining us in our water drops have been doing an AMAZING job! They are putting in hard work, especially in these extreme temperatures. We still cannot take new volunteers to water drops;  the summer is not a safe time to learn and experience your first Water Drop.

We are so glad we can help ensure that our migrant friends are able to get a hot meal, as their old stove had stopped working. As always, we are incredibly grateful to all of you for your continued support, and for making sure our beloved families in Tijuana continue to be cared for regardless of the state of the world. We also want to give a huge thank you to the directors for always caring for their shelter inhabitants, and for being flexible and willing to adapt to how we provide aid.

Our friends at Refugee Health Alliance are one of the only organizations providing medical care for migrants and asylum seekers in Tijuana.

Health services for asylum-seeking refugees have nearly come to a stop as a result of the Covid-19 travel restrictions. Local Tijuana clinics offering medical services to refugees have closed.

U.S. based clinicians and doctors are no longer able to travel to Tijuana to meet with those who are in dire need of medical and mental health support. While migrants have access to hospitals in Mexico, it is financially difficult and risky to do so.  Many migrants are persecuted by gangs who target them outside of the shelters.

'Margarita Smith, a guard who was named CoreCivic’s Otay Mesa employee of the year in 2019, said managers frequently discouraged workers from wearing masks. The topic came up during briefings in March.

Judge rejects plea to release immigrant families in detention due to Covid-19

"Washington (CNN)A federal judge on Wednesday denied a blanket request to release families in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Immigration advocates and lawyers have urged the Trump administration to release families who are in federal immigration custody, given the confined setting and potential spread of coronavirus.
"Holding asylum seeking families in facilities with active Covid outbreaks or making them give up their kids to protect them is constitutionally punitive," said Amy Maldonado, an attorney for the plaintiffs."
