Back to Work on Capitol Hill

It was good to be back on Capitol Hill this week with a full schedule of hearings focused on the issues that matter to Main Street and hardworking Texans. The sign on the door of my Washington, D.C. office says it best: this office belongs to the people of Texas.

This week, the House made real progress on government funding. We passed a bipartisan package of appropriations bills to keep key federal agencies operating and avoid another shutdown. These bills fund essential priorities like public safety, energy infrastructure, and environmental stewardship, and they move us closer to finishing the job of funding the government responsibly.

There is more work ahead, but I will continue pushing for fiscal discipline, accountability, and results for the people of TX-25.

Protecting Taxpayers and Small Businesses

American taxpayers deserve confidence that their hard-earned dollars are spent wisely and lawfully. As Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I am committed to safeguarding SBA programs so they serve legitimate small businesses, not those looking to abuse the system.

This week, the Committee Held a Hearing on the Office of Advocacy’s Role as the Voice for Main Street.

Standing for the Rule of Law

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, President Trump announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. President Nicolás Maduro poisoned our communities with drugs and destabilized our hemisphere. This action sends a clear message: the United States will hold criminals accountable and put America’s security first.

Supporting Law Enforcement

I was proud to recognize Officer Michael Lewis of Ranger, Texas, for his courageous, lifesaving actions. Our communities are safer because of officers like him and the thousands across TX-25 who put on the badge every day.

On January 9th, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we had the opportunity to honor officers like Michael and reflect on the important role they play in keeping our communities safe. The dangers they face continue to increase, and violence against law enforcement is unacceptable.

That’s why I introduced the Blue Shield Privacy Act of 2025, to protect officers and their families from targeted attacks and harassment.

In Case You Missed It

I had a great conversation on the Mark Davis Show to talk about protecting family businesses, expanding trade schools, and building one of the strongest economies America has ever seen.

I joined NewsNation - Morning in America to talk about keeping our communities safe and making sure law enforcement has the support they need.
