I’ve been hearing a consistent and troubling message from neighbors across Virginia’s 10th District: people are afraid.
I’ve heard from families who fear lethal consequences simply for exercising their First Amendment right to protest this administration throughout 2025, and those fears have been stoked since the recent deadly shooting in Minneapolis. We cannot allow a culture of secrecy and intimidation to replace the rule of law.
That is why I just signed on to the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act. This would limit ICE's use of force and masks, implement the use of body cameras, and require reporting and documentation on the use of force.
This is not the first time I’ve called for accountability from ICE. Last year, I introduced the WATCH ICE Act after an oversight visit revealed that nearly 80% of people in a local detention facility had no criminal convictions.
This bill would force ICE to release quarterly reports on who they are arresting and why. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, we should all be concerned when government agents operate in the shadows to score political points.
I’m not going to back down. I’m fighting to ensure our government respects the constitutional rights of everyone in Sterling, Manassas, and across our community.
