Governor Walz Statement on the Shooting of Renee Nicole Good

________________________________________________________________________

This week, the world learned that an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. My deepest condolences to her friends, family, and loved ones who had to learn this tragic news on national TV.

We have warned for weeks that the Trump administration's dangerous, sensationalized operations are a threat to public safety. That someone was going to get hurt.

What we're seeing is the consequences of governance designed to generate fear, headlines, and conflict. It’s governing by reality TV. And on Wednesday that recklessness cost someone their life.

Let me be clear: Trump and his administration may not care about Minnesota. But we love our state. We won’t let them tear us apart. We will not turn against each other. Minnesota: I feel your anger. I am angry.

The hearts and minds of the people in this state are on our side. To Americans: Stand with Minneapolis. To Minnesotans: Know that my administration is going to stop at nothing seek accountability and justice.

We will fight this in court, through public debate, and at the ballot box, and we will win. But we will not fight it in the streets.
