John,
As we end the first full week of the new year, it’s safe to say it’s been an eventful year so far. Trump has ignored Congress’s constitutional role to decide whether to use military force in Venezuela and commit our nation “to run” Venezuela indefinitely.
He has rattled our strongest allies by threatening to invade Greenland, a self-governing territory belonging to Denmark. He’s unleashed federal law enforcement to terrorize communities across the nation — and now a woman in Minneapolis is dead at the hands of ICE agents.
Add your name if you agree that Trump and his Republican allies must be held accountable for their actions. [[link removed]]
These are dark days for our nation, and it sometimes feels hard to keep up with all the damage this administration is inflicting on our nation. But Trump’s toxic policies are increasingly unpopular, and the American people are sick of this out-of-control, corrupt president and his failures to govern.
On January 1st, millions of Americans saw their healthcare costs skyrocket as Trump and his MAGA cronies in Congress let critical subsidies expire. It makes me think of one of my constituents who told her story on a telephone town hall I hosted last year. She calculated that their premium will jump to over $3,100 per month — $37,200 per year. As she said, “that is not only unaffordable; it’s impossible for us.”
This week, Democratic efforts to force a House vote on keeping healthcare affordable succeeded. 17 Republicans voted against Trump by joining ALL Democrats in voting to bring costs down, and the bill passed the House. Now, the bill heads to the Senate to face an uncertain future.
I’m calling on Republicans to put the interests of voters first. Add your name if you agree. [[link removed]]SIGN ON [[link removed]]
The events of the past week show just how critical it is that we flip the House in November so we can hold Trump accountable. Republicans are going to try to use political tricks to escape accountability, but we can’t let them off the hook.
Together, we can put people over politics, bring down costs, and hold this failure of a president accountable for his incompetence and cruelty.
Sincerely,
Joe Courtney
