Hi, friend. Michael here.
I recently sent a message about Trump's calls to free Tina Peters – the only election official in the nation rightfully behind bars in a Colorado state prison for participating in his "Big Lie."
But now, I'm wondering if Trump got my email too ... because shortly after, he made another futile attempt (this time over social media) to get his way:
Despite his best efforts, the Constitution makes it crystal clear that the presidential pardon power does not extend to state-level charges.
If he and his allies can't do the time, then they shouldn't have done the crimes.
But this is exactly why I know Colorado can provide the example this country needs on how to effectively fight back against Trump's corrupt agenda. We did it in Mesa County when a jury of her peers found Peters guilty of voting machine tampering, and we're still doing it by resisting Trump's efforts to abuse executive power.
So to keep it up until he can no longer abuse that power, we must elect a leader who has a deep understanding of what presidents can and cannot do, how Trump thinks and how best to protect our state from his lawlessness.
That's why I'm in this race, friend – and it's why I'm counting on your help to build the resources to win on Election Day.
Please, will you make your first contribution of $5, $25 or anything you can give to power this grassroots campaign to victory? As Colorado's next governor, I'll ensure our state serves as the blueprint for justice, accountability and progress that our country desperately needs.
