Friend,
Today marks eleven years since Congress last raised the federal minimum wage. In the time since, the stagnant minimum wage has slowed down our economy and hurt working families in the process.
There is not a single city in America — including Richmond — where someone can afford a two-bedroom apartment while earning the minimum wage. People working multiple jobs are just barely getting by. While the poverty rate has been declining the past few years under the Mayor's leadership, the pandemic is hurting many families in Richmond and across the country. There has never been a more important time to raise the wage.
Mayor Levar Stoney supports a $15 minimum wage, so we can boost our economy and give working people a decent wage. Over a decade ago today, Congress passed the Raise the Wage Act. On this anniversary, add your name if you support raising Richmond’s minimum wage.
Levar is fighting to make Richmond a city that works for everyone — and raising the minimum wage plays a huge part in that. Raising the minimum wage will lift millions of families out of poverty and help end income inequality, particularly for workers of color.
When we pay our workers a living wage, they’ll put their earnings back into our blossoming economy. Raising the wage is not just the right thing to do, it’s the economically responsible thing to do.
Workers can't afford to wait for the Senate to pass the Raise the Wage Act of 2019. Sign Levar's petition today if you agree it's past time we raise the wage.
Thank you,
Team Stoney
