Here’s something that won’t surprise you: Big money from corporations and secret donors have corrupted our elections and eroded confidence in government.

The Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United is to blame for most of this. But here’s the good news: we don’t have to wait for the Supreme Court to fix the mess we’re in.

As your next governor, Phil will support efforts to get dark and corporate money out of our politics — because he’s in this for everyday Coloradans like YOU, not billionaires or corporations. Can you help us prove this is a winning agenda by contributing $25 to our people-powered campaign today?

The painful reality is that, given the importance of campaign donations, far too many politicians focus on the needs of the wealthy and powerful companies — not on the needs of the people who voted for them.

Citizens in Montana are working to change that with a ballot initiative to get corporate money out of politics. We deserve the same protections right here in Colorado.

Maybe the best part? There’s precedent for this kind of solution. States have legally defined what corporations are (and are not) allowed to do since the 1700s. Our state legislature has modified these laws four times in the last thirty years — and we can do it again to prevent corporations from influencing elections. Now’s the time for us to change them for the better.

Friends, let’s make a New Year’s resolution to get dark and corporate money out of our politics together. As your governor, Phil will always support efforts to make politicians more accountable to the people. If you’re with him, can you chip in $25 to our campaign right now?
