John -

If Donald Trump wants to run a country, he should focus on running the United States of America, not Venezuela.

I’ve flown in a war that was fought over oil. It was a war that was built on bluster and bravado from ignorance and arrogance of those in leadership.

And we’re repeating those same mistakes. We have yet again entered a war where there is no known off-ramp.

It is not the American people’s responsibility to go around the world pushing regime change and running foreign countries when we have problems here at home.

Maybe Trump dodged the draft so many times that he's incapable of understanding the lessons the rest of us have learned from past conflicts based on lies.

The bottom line:

The Constitution requires the American people, through their elected representatives in Congress, to authorize any President to engage in acts of war—because they will be the ones to live with the consequences of the decision—and it is unacceptable for this President to deny Congress that responsibility.

I will hold Donald Trump accountable for these reckless and unconstitutional operations in Venezuela. My work is only possible with your support, so if this is meaningful to you and you can afford it, I’m asking:

Please make a contribution to my campaign. Every dollar goes toward my continued work in the U.S. Senate holding the Trump Administration accountable for its lies and wrongdoing.

Thank you for your support.
