Speaker Johnson also addressed the tragic passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa. Speaker Johnson said, "The world is safer because Maduro is apprehended and in the hands of the U.S. justice system now." | This week, Speaker Johnson issued his formal invitation to President Trump to deliver the State of the Union on February 24. House Republicans look forward to President Trump's address to the nation. | On Tuesday morning, Speaker Johnson's friend and colleague Rep. Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) passed away at the age of 65. Rep. LaMalfa was a lifelong resident of northern California and deeply loved its people. Following the news of his passing, Speaker Johnson said, "He was as fierce of a fighter for his state’s vast natural resources and beauty as we have ever known. We are mourning the loss of our friend and brother today and we send our respects for his life and work to his wife Jill and the LaMalfa family during this difficult time."
